"06.16.2020: STOP" Original Work on Paper

Presenting a new original work from the studio of Philip Gladstone

"06.16.2020: STOP"

"STOP" is a pastiche, or 'mashup', of iconic protest imagery — details from Pablo Picasso's celebrated 1937 oil "Guernica" are juxtaposed with figures borrowed from a lesser-known late (1965) work by illustrator Norman Rockwell entitled "Murder in Mississippi", and additional compositional elements are drawn from contemporary news photographs of riot police

  • "06.16.2020: STOP" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
  • Made with pen-and-ink, India ink, watercolor, colored pencils and Windsor & Newton pigmented markers on 140 lb. Arches cold-press watercolor paper
  • Image measures 11-3/4 by 11-3/4 inches (as shown, sheet slightly lager)
  • Created in June 2020
  • Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG) and dated "2020", lower left/center; signed again with his full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
