"Improvisation" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
- Adapted from a World War 2-era (1944) photograph discovered on the American Air Museum website↗ showing pilots bathing using their helmets
- Made with watercolor and pen-and-inks with touches of charcoal and watercolor pencils, heightened with with white gouache and sgraffito (scraping), on clay-coated paper
- Image measures 11-3/4 by 11-3/4 inches (as shown, sheet slightly larger)
- Created in August 2024
- Signed by the artist with his monogram cipher (PG) and dated "2024", lower right, and inscribed "After a 1944 photograph", lower left; signed again with the artist's full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
