  • About: "Caring" is an interpretation of an official U.S. Navy photograph taken in 1944 by documentary photographer Horace Bristol, who was recruited to the U.S. Naval Aviation Photographic Unit during World War Two as one of six photographers under the command of Captain Edward Steichen
  • Made with watercolor, pen-and-ink and colored pencils with sgraffito (scraping) on clay-coated paper
  • Image measures 12 by 12 inches (as shown, sheet slightly larger)
  • Created in 2017
  • Signed by the artist with his monogram cipher (PG) and dated "2017", lower right; signed again with the artist's full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
  • Provenance: Sold by the artist to a private California collection, 2017; re-acquired from the late collector's estate by Philip Gladstone Studio, 2023
