"Young Artist Who Came of Age in the Nineteen-Eighties" Original Painting
| Presenting a new original work from the studio of Philip Gladstone "The Young Artist Who Came of Age in the Nineteen-Eighties" About this work: The Young Artist Who Came of Age in the Nineteen-Eighties merges several sources from art history to tell an implied story that resonates with Philip Gladstone, who himself came of age in the eighties: on the wall behind the Young Artist of the title is (perhaps his version of) Roy Lichtenstein's 1963 painting "Whaam!"; Keith Haring's iconic barking dog enters the composition from the right; the crate of Campbell's Tomato Juice immediately calls to mind Andy Warhol's famous Soup Cans; and the Young Artist himself, who appears to have painted his own body in homage to photographer Annie Leibovitz's collaboration with Haring, is modeled on ca. 1889 photograph by Thomas Eakins
