"The Key" is an original framed painting on linen canvas by Philip Gladstone
- Artist's note: "The Key" is based upon a circa 1883 photograph of an artist's model in the Rijksmuseum collection, by Anglo-Belgian painter and sculptor Jacques de Lalaing; painted in near-grisaille (limited palette of white, Liquitex parchment white, black, burnt umber, raw sienna and Payne's grey)
- Made with artist's professional acrylic paints on a stretched linen canvas
- Framed in a handcrafted wooden frame with arch; hand-rubbed seven layer antiqued finish in warm grey/black and 12k gold leaf (white gold)
- Measures 16 by 12 inches (22-1/2 by 18-1/2 by 2-1/2 inches framed)
- Created in October 2021
- Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG), lower right/center; signed again with his full name, dated and inscribed with the title on the reverse
