Artist's note: Philip Gladstone's The Eight is based on a circa 1880 photograph by American artist Thomas Eakins (1844-1916) that served as a study for his celebrated painting Swimming Hole in the collection of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (see the last image in the gallery above for Eakin's photograph)

• Made with artist's acrylic paints on a 3/4-inch deep cradled wooden panel
• Image measures 12 by 12 inches
• Created in September 2019
• Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG) and dated "2019", lower left; signed again and inscribed with the title on the reverse
