"Fleeting"

Artist's note: Fleeting is a mashup of three sources: a 1950 U.S. Army photograph of a grief stricken American infantryman comforted by another soldier; figures from Thomas Eakins' 1886 painting Swimming Hole; and, layered over the composition, the image of Walt Disney's iconic Mickey Mouse

• "Fleeting" is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
• Made with pen-and-ink, graphite, watercolor, watercolor pencils, Windsor & Newton pigmented markers, Sennelier oil pastels, layered tinted varnishes and touches of gold metallic ink with sgrafitto on white clay-coated paper
• Image measures 11 by 11 inches (as shown, sheet slightly lager)
• Created in December 2019
• Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG) and dated "2019", lower right; signed again with his full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
