"Andy is Disgruntled With His Latest Portrait, But Dolly Had Lots of Laughs Posing"

• A Giclée (inkjet) print on matte white paper, in an edition of fifteen plus two artist's proofs; published 2026
• ARTIST'S NOTE: When I imagined this composition depicting Andy Warhol painting Dolly Parton while she posed, I was sure Warhol must have painted Parton; my plan was that if I discovered he hadn't, I'd invent a portrait in Warhol's iconic manner. But he had painted her, in series, and I learned that the portraits are considered among his weakest ("they aren’t quite worthy of the singer’s complex excellence", New York Times) and that Parton herself was reportedly disappointed with them. So I made that part of the story; Andy may be less 'disgruntled' with the portrait itself (I think it's quite striking) but more disappointed by the critical reaction—but it's hard for me to imagine Dolly having anything but 'lots of laughs'
