Hope Springs from the Divide

  • About: Hope Springs from the Divide began as a work on paper created in the summer of 2021; the composition originally included a third figure between the two that remain (see images of the first three states above). The initial piece was subsequently mounted to panel, and evolved in a deliberate, meditative way over a period of several months into the finished work — the artist's picture-poem for a tumultuous 2021— presented here
  • Made with acrylic, iridescent acrylics, mixed-media and collage on Stonehenge paper mounted to a cradled wood panel edged with decorative brass tacks, varnished; the panel is surface (float) mounted on a custom-made, 22k gold leaf hand-carved frame made to Gladstone's specifications and further painted and patinated by the artist to be integral to this work
  • Overall size: 23 by 23 by 2-1/2 inches
  • Completed in December 2021
  • Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG) and dated "2021", lower left; signed again with his full name and inscribed with the title on the reverse
  • NFS (artist's collection)
