Artist's note: This work is a riff on Eadweard Muybridge's (1830-1904) celebrated photographic motion studies (see last three pictures in the gallery above)

• The Struggle (A Riff on Muybridge) is an original mixed-media work on paper by Philip Gladstone
• Made with Pen-and-ink, graphite, watercolor, watercolor pencils, Windsor & Newton pigmented markers and touches of gold metallic Sharpie markers on 140 lb. Arches cold-press watercolor paper
• Image measures 11 by 14-5/8 inches (as shown, sheet slightly larger)
• Created in August 2020
• Signed by the artist with his monogram (PG), lower center; signed again with his full name, dated and inscribed with the title on the reverse
